Mount Tarcoola Primary School is located in a quiet suburb about 5km from the central business district of Geraldton. The school was established in 1978 to cater for students living in the southern suburbs of Geraldton and the Greenough hinterland. A feature of the school is its attractive grounds and quiet location.

Mount Tarcoola PS has a reputation as being a warm, friendly, welcoming school where manners, behaviour and dress standards are regarded as important. Each year the school receives numerous applications for enrolments from families living outside the school's catchment area. These students are accommodated when class numbers allow.

The school caters for approximately 500 students from Kindergarten through to Year 6. The teaching staff is generally very experienced, with the large majority having taught for ten years or more. Many of the teachers have Senior Teacher status. Teachers regard the school as a highly desirable location.

The school has achieved considerable success in a range of academic pursuits, most notably the statewide Numero Competition in mathematics, the Maths Olympiad (placed in the top 10 per cent of schools in Australia) and the Randolph Stow Young Writer's Award.

A major focus of the school has been promoting cultural awareness and harmony and the participation of the various cultural groups in the school. The school has received several prestigious awards for its efforts in this area. A highlight of the school year is the celebration of Harmony Day at the school.

The school actively promotes and encourages parent participation and involvement in the life of the School. The Parents and Citizens' Association provides outstanding support. The school has excellent relations with the Malay community, and shares a Community Liaison Officer and other nearby schools. The school also has a highly active Pre School Committee that works closely with the early childhood classes at the school. Many hundreds of parents and extended family members join the school on numerous occasions throughout the year. These include regular school assemblies, Open Day and the End of Year Assembly and Graduation evening.

“RELIABILITY”

The school motto was chosen by the original staff and parents of children attending the school in its first year.  “Reliability” means to work to the best of your ability, try hard and always be dependable - putting in a good effort at whatever tasks are attempted.
